Relay Fails to Connect to MYLAPS Orbits

You have installed the RaceHero relay, started it successfully but clicking "Fire it up!" fails to connect to your MYLAPS Orbits timing computer. Here are steps to troubleshoot.

Most frequently, if the RaceHero Relay is not running on your MYLAPS Orbits computer and cannot connect, the Windows firewall could be preventing the connection. Follow these steps to temporarily disable the firewall or make a permanent exclusion for Orbits.

Are you using a compatible version of MYLAPS Orbits?

Check the Relay page for the latest details, but we generally support Orbits 4.5 SP3 or newer (released ~2009) as well as Orbits 5 (X2-based). A version older than 4.5 SP3 will not function (and you should upgrade, because it's free, and fixes lots of issues!)

Are you using MYLAPS Orbits Remote clients?

Most Orbits installs permit two Remote clients and RaceHero uses one of these two connections to obtain accurate results, entry lists and schedules. If the Relay briefly connects and then disconnects, you may not have an available Remote slot. You can test whether this is the issue by exiting one of your Remote clients, waiting 30 seconds, and then attempting to reconnect RaceHero again.

If you successfully connect, this is your issue. Contact us for help obtaining additional Remote connections to RaceHero.

Relay is installed on a different computer than MYLAPS Orbits

  1. Check IP address/Hostname
    1. Does the Relay find the Orbits timing computer automatically?
    2. If not, you can follow these steps on the Orbits timing computer to find the IP address and enter it into the Orbits field
  2. Temporarily disable the Windows Firewall to determine if the request is being blocked.
  3. How many MYLAPS Remote clients are connected? See note above about limited Remote connections.

Relay is installed on same computer as MYLAPS Orbits

  1. IP Address in Relay should be 127.0.0.1. You can also use a hostname of "localhost" without the quotes.
  2. How many MYLAPS Remote clients are connected? See note above about limited Remote connections.
